Alright, so you wanna know about them Cardinal Mooney Cardinals football, huh? 2023, that’s what you said. Well, lemme tell ya, I don’t know much about all that fancy football stuff, but I can tell ya what I heard and seen.
Them Cardinals, they from Youngstown, Ohio. Mahoning County, they say. And that OHSAA Division IV, whatever that means, sounds important. They got a team, a football team, you know, the kind that runs around and throws the ball. Kids these days, always runnin’ and jumpin’. Back in my day, we just worked the farm.
I heard tell they got a schedule. A 24-25 schedule, they call it. Varsity football, mind you. Not the little fellas, the big ones. They play games, I guess. Lots of ’em, seems like. You can probably find it online, if you’re into that sort of thing. Just search for “Cardinal Mooney High School” or somethin’ like “Youngstown Cardinal Mooney Football.” Them young’uns are always on them computers and phones, they know how to find stuff.

Now, this WKBN Big 22 thing, I heard about that on the radio. 18th season, they said. Big deal, I guess. They pick the best players, I reckon. From all over. Maybe some of them Mooney boys made the list, who knows. They seem like good, strong boys, those Cardinals.
I saw some of them kids once, down at the store. Big and strong, like I said. Wearing them jackets with the bird on ’em. A Cardinal, I suppose. Red and white, if I remember right. They were polite, though, said “ma’am” and everything. My old man would’ve liked that.
Football, football, football. That’s all folks talk about around here come fall. It’s a big thing, I guess. Brings folks together, they say. Like them Friday night lights, they always talkin’ about. I don’t get it, but I guess it makes people happy.
The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals. Sounds fancy, doesn’t it? But they’re just boys, at the end of the day. Boys playing a game. Just like my boys used to play in the field, ‘cept they were chasin’ cows, not a ball.
So, if you wanna know more, like I said, go look it up online. Schedules, players, scores, they got it all there. These young people and their technology, I tell ya. It’s a whole different world from when I was growin’ up.
But them Cardinals, they seem like a good bunch. Strong, polite, and they play hard. That’s what matters, I guess. Work hard, play hard, that’s what my old man always said. And them Mooney boys, they seem to be doin’ just that.
And that’s about all I know about them Cardinal Mooney Cardinals and their football. Not much, I admit, but it’s somethin’. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got to go make some supper. Them grandkids are comin’ over, and they’re always hungry.
