Western Illinois University Womens Basketball: How to Watch and Stay Updated on the Team

Okay, so, I’ve been trying to get into watching more college sports, and today I decided to dive into women’s basketball. I picked a game sort of randomly, you know, just to see what it’s like. The team I ended up focusing on was the Western Illinois University women’s basketball team. I gotta say, it was a pretty cool experience, and I learned a lot more than I expected.

First off, I had to figure out where to even watch these games. This took a bit of Googling. It seems like some of their matches are streamed online. I saw something about “Fubo” that offers a way to watch games. They said something like “Try for free, but regional restrictions may apply” which is a bummer, but good to know I guess.

Finding the Games

  • Search for Streaming Options: I basically just started searching for where to stream these games. Ended up finding out about Fubo and some other potential streaming services.
  • Check TV Listings: I also figured out that some games might be on TV, but I didn’t dig too deep into that since I prefer watching online.

Then I was curious about when they were playing. It looks like there was a game against Missouri on November 15th, I might have missed that one. There’s also a game against Eastern Illinois on February 29th, so that’s something to keep in mind. They have this place called “LeRoy A. Ufkes Court at Western Hall” where they play some of these games. Sounds kinda official, right?

Getting to Know the Team

  • Look up the Schedule: I found their full schedule for the 2024-25 season. It’s all laid out with dates and opponents.
  • Dig into Team Info: I learned the team’s name is the “Leathernecks”. They are part of the Ohio Valley Conference. I had no idea what that was at first, but it’s all starting to make sense now.

I also found some stuff about betting info on these games, which, honestly, I’m not into, but it’s interesting to know that’s a thing. Also found a bunch of info about their social media and stuff about their mascot, “Rocky”. They have something called the “Purple Platoon” too, which I guess is some kind of fan club.

Diving Deeper into the World of College Basketball

  • Explore Additional Resources: I checked out some places that have a lot more college basketball games. There is a thing about adding favorite teams to “My Stuff” and that it will record games for you throughout the season. That sounds pretty handy.
  • Learn the Lingo: Started picking up on some terms like “scoring differential” which, if I understood correctly, means how many more points they score than their opponents. It sounds like Cincinnati is doing pretty good with a +90 differential.

So, yeah, that was my day getting into Western Illinois University women’s basketball. I started out just wanting to watch a game and ended up learning about schedules, streaming, and a whole bunch of other stuff. It’s pretty cool how much there is to college sports once you start looking into it. I think I’m gonna keep following the Leathernecks and see how they do this season. Maybe I’ll even become a real fan, who knows?
