Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get back into golf for a while now. It’s been years, but I used to play a bit in college. My buddy told me about this “Dad Miller Golf League” thing, and it sounded like a chill way to ease back into the game. I decided to check it out and see what it’s all about.
First thing I did was try to find out how to even get into this league. Turns out, joining is actually free, which is pretty sweet. I just had to look up the info for the Dad Miller Golf Course and Spark Golf, the organization that runs the league.
They have this “Players Club” at Dad Miller, and I thought about joining. You get some discounts on green fees and cart rentals, plus a free drink with each round and a bucket of range balls every day. Sounds like a good deal if you plan on playing there a lot, but I wasn’t sure how often I’d actually be able to make it out, so I decided to just try the league first.
I found out they play every Wednesday at 5:00 PM. Perfect, right after work! It’s also free to join the league, and you can just pay for the rounds you play each week, which is great for someone like me who’s just starting out again and not sure how much I’ll be into it.
I signed up online – pretty easy process. I think you can sign up with a partner, too, but I figured I’d just go solo this time and see who else is in the league.
The course itself is supposed to be pretty nice. I did a little digging, and apparently it’s in Anaheim, not too far from downtown LA. They’ve got a lake and some trees around the fairways, so it should be a nice setting for a relaxed round of golf.
They also have a bar and grill called “Fore Thirty” at the course. I saw something about a golf simulator room there, too, “The Albatross Room,” sponsored by Callaway. Might be fun to check out sometime.
So, I went for my first round last Wednesday. Showed up a little early, checked in, and got paired up with a few other guys. Everyone was pretty chill, a mix of ages and skill levels. It was definitely a no-pressure kind of vibe, which is exactly what I was looking for.
I was rusty, for sure. My swing was all over the place, and I definitely lost a few balls in the lake. But, it was still a lot of fun. Just being out on the course, getting some exercise, and meeting some new people was great.
We played nine holes, and afterward, a few of us grabbed a drink at Fore Thirty. It was a good way to unwind after work and chat about the round.
Here’s what I learned from my first experience:
- Joining the league is super easy and free! You can just pay as you go for the rounds you play.
- It’s a really relaxed atmosphere. No one’s taking it too seriously, which is perfect for beginners or people who are just getting back into the game.
- The course is nice and not too far from the city. It’s a good place to escape for a few hours and enjoy some nature.
- The bar and grill is a good spot to hang out after the round.
- You can enjoy playing some of the top golf courses in the Albatross Room.
- The course is open from sunrise every day.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend checking out the Dad Miller Golf League if you’re looking for a fun, low-key way to play some golf. I’m planning on going back next Wednesday, and maybe I’ll even sign up for that Players Club eventually.
