Okay, so, I wanted to mess around with the settings on my Cleveland golf driver, you know, tweak the loft, lie, and all that jazz to see if I could squeeze a bit more distance or accuracy out of it. I heard about this thing called a feral adapter, which sounded just like what I needed. So, I got my hands on one of these Cleveland Launcher XL 2 Driver Compatible Shaft Adapters.
First things first, I had to get the old ferrule off. Let me tell you, it wasn’t a walk in the park. I didn’t want to buy a new one, so I tried to salvage it. I wrapped it in a wet cotton cloth, like three or four times around, and then went at the hosel with a torch. Not a heat gun, mind you, a proper torch. Aimed it right at the middle bottom of the hosel. After about ten seconds or so, I was able to pull the head off. Phew, that was a bit nerve-wracking!
Now, with the head off, I had to deal with the old ferrule.
I carefully cut the old one off, cleaned off all that old epoxy gunk. It was a bit messy, but nothing a little elbow grease couldn’t handle. Then, I slipped the new ferrule onto the shaft, added some fresh epoxy, and reattached the clubhead.
Getting the New Adapter On
- I found a shaft with a Cleveland adapter. This was probably the trickiest part, finding the right shaft.
- Once I had the shaft, it was pretty straightforward. I used the torque wrench that came with my driver.
- Screwed in the bolt, and voila, the adapter was in place!
With the new adapter in place, I started playing around with the settings. I could adjust the loft and lie angles, and let me tell you, it made a noticeable difference. I was able to fine-tune the launch angle and spin rate, which helped me optimize my shots.
Honestly, I was surprised at how much of an impact these small adjustments had. It felt like I had a whole new club in my hands. I was hitting the ball further and straighter than before. My friends were definitely impressed, and a bit jealous, I think. This little experiment definitely paid off, and I’m glad I took the time to mess around with this adapter thing. Now, I’m hitting bombs off the tee!
