These girls, they ain’t messin’ around. They run and they hit, and they hit hard. I seen ’em play, all quick and jumpy like fleas on a dog. Forehands, backhands, somethin’ called serves, I dunno. But it looks mighty impressive. They got this coach, Rollins, I think his name is. He must be doin’ somethin’ right, ’cause them girls are good. Real good. And their families, they holler and cheer for ’em, which is real nice.
This whole “high school sports” thing, it’s a big deal. Kids gettin’ together, playin’ hard, learnin’ stuff. Ain’t just about whacking a ball, you know? It’s ’bout teamwork, and tryin’ your best, and bein’ part of somethin’ bigger than yourself. That’s what my old man used to say, anyway, ‘fore he went off to the big farm in the sky.
Broad Run, Them Spartans and the Others
Now, this Broad Run place, that’s where they play some of these matches. They got a team, the Spartans they call ‘em. Tough bunch. They run fast and hit hard, just like I said. But there’s other teams too, lots of ‘em. All sorts of schools, with funny names like “Prep Knights” and “Bears” and “Coyotes”. Sounds like a zoo, don’t it? But they all play hard, and that’s what matters. And this “MaxPreps” thing, seems like they keep track of all these games. Scores and such. Don’t rightly know how it works, but folks seem to like it.

- Lots of schools playin’, more than I can count on my fingers and toes.
- Parents and folks shoutin’, it’s excitin’.
State Championships and All That Jazz
I heard tell that some of these girls, they even go to somethin’ called “state championships.” That sounds mighty fancy. Like the county fair, but with more racquets and less pie. And this year, them Spartans, they done real good. Heard tell they got far, maybe even won the whole thing, I ain’t sure. But they sure made their folks proud, and that’s what counts. This one girl, Nya somethin’, she’s real good. Jumpin’ and smashin’ that ball, she’s a real firecracker. Reminds me of myself when I was young, ‘cept I was wranglin’ chickens, not tennis balls.
It Ain’t Just About Winnin’
Now, some folks get all worked up about winnin’. But I reckon it ain’t just about that. Sure, winnin’s nice, but it’s more ’bout playin’ fair and doin’ your best. And them girls, they doin’ just that. They learnin’ somethin’, they growin’ up, and they havin’ some fun along the way. And that’s more important than any trophy or blue ribbon.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
And the other thing, these girls, they play together. It ain’t just one gal out there doin’ her thing, they work together. Like a team of horses pullin’ a wagon, they all gotta pull in the same direction, you know? And they got that coach, helpin’ ‘em along, teachin’ ‘em the ropes. That’s important too. Can’t just go it alone in this world.
Good Job, Girls
So, to them girls playin’ this “maz prep broad run girls tennis,” I say, good job. Keep runnin’, keep hittin’, and keep havin’ fun. And to their folks and their coach, y’all done good too. Keep supportin’ them young’uns, ’cause they the future. And who knows, maybe one of these days, one of them girls will be playin’ on TV, and I can say, “I seen her play when she was just a little tyke.” Wouldn’t that be somethin’?
Support is important. All them folks comin’ out, watchin’ them girls play, that’s a big deal. Makin’ them girls feel important, makin’ them feel like they’re doin’ somethin’ worthwhile. And that’s good. Everybody needs a little support now and again. It’s like waterin’ a plant, helpin’ it grow strong and tall.
And that’s all I gotta say ‘bout that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens. They get mighty grumpy if they don’t get their dinner on time.
