Alright, so ya wanna know about this Samurai Rugby 7s, huh? Well, lemme tell ya what I know, in my own way, mind ya. It ain’t gonna be fancy, but it’ll be straight.
First off, this Samurai team, they ain’t some bunch of nobodies. They’re like, real good at this rugby sevens thing. Sevens, that’s like regular rugby but faster, ya know? Less fellas on the field, more runnin’ around. These Samurai fellas, they’re known for bein’ one of the best in the whole wide world. Can ya believe that? A buncha fellas runnin’ around with a ball, and they’re the best at it!
Now, some fella named Terry Sands, he started this whole thing back in ’96. Heard tell he saw them Japanese fellas playin’ rugby and thought, “Hey, we can do that too!” But he wanted somethin’ special, somethin’… Samurai-like! So, he called ’em Samurai Rugby, or somethin’ like that. Later on, they changed the name to Shogun Rugby, but it’s the same bunch, don’t ya worry.
What’s this Rugby Sevens all about, anyway?
Well, like I said, it’s fast. Real fast. These fellas are runnin’ and passin’ and slammin’ into each other. It’s kinda like a barn dance, but with more… aggression, ya know? And they gotta be quick on their feet, too. No time for loafin’ around. It’s all about speed and agility, they say. And from what I hear, these Samurai boys got plenty of both.

Don’t know if these Samurai fellas get that much, but they gotta be doin’ alright for themselves, bein’ the best and all.
Now, these Samurai, they ain’t just playin’ for fun, mind ya. They got a mission, they say. They wanna be the best in the world at findin’ new talent and makin’ ‘em good at rugby sevens. They wanna win games, of course, but they also wanna teach young fellas how to play the game right. That’s what I heard, anyways.
And it ain’t just for fellas, ya know. There’s women playin’ rugby sevens too. Tough as nails, some of ‘em. Don’t know if the Samurai got a women’s team, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did. These days, women can do anything men can do, and sometimes they do it better!
They go around playin’ in all sorts of tournaments, these Samurai fellas. Places like Bury and Newbury, I heard. Travelin’ all over the world, showin’ off their skills. Must be a sight to see, all them fellas runnin’ around, tryin’ to score. I bet it gets pretty wild.
So, what makes ‘em so good?
Well, like I said, they’re fast. And they’re tough. But it’s more than that. They gotta work together, ya see? Like a team of horses pullin’ a plow. If one horse ain’t pullin’ its weight, the whole thing falls apart. These Samurai fellas, they know how to work together. They trust each other, and they know what they gotta do to win.
And they got this Terry Sands fella, he knows what he’s doin’. He’s been at it for a long time, and he knows how to pick the right players and train ’em up good. He’s like a good farmer, cultivatin’ his crops. Except his crops are rugby players, and he’s cultivatin’ them to be the best in the world.
So, there ya have it. That’s what I know about this Samurai Rugby 7s. They’re a bunch of fast, tough fellas who are really good at playin’ rugby. They travel the world, winnin’ games and teachin’ young fellas how to play. And they got a fella named Terry Sands leadin’ the way. Not bad for a buncha fellas runnin’ around with a ball, eh?
