Rugby Kicking Rules: Your Simple Guide, Everything You Need to Know About Kicking in Rugby

Alright, so, I’ve been trying to get my head around the whole rugby kicking thing. Man, it’s a bit more complicated than I thought! So I started digging into it yesterday.

First, I watched a bunch of videos online, just to see how the pros do it. There were some people talking about the offside and how to avoid it in a game. It seems easy but there are tons of details and I am totally * I started reading some articles about kicking rules, and my head was spinning.

Then I decided I needed to try this out for myself. I grabbed my old rugby ball from the garage, dusted it off, and headed to the local park. It was a nice day, so there were a few people around, which made me a bit self-conscious, but I figured, what the heck, right?

I tried a few practice kicks, just to get a feel for it. The ball went every which way, but not where I wanted it to go. It was so embarassing. I was kicking like a 5 years old. Then I remembered something about an “offside” rule, but I couldn’t quite recall the details from what I’d read. So, I just pretended everyone was onside for the sake of practice. This was definitely not easy for a beginner like me.

I spent about an hour out there, kicking and chasing the ball. My legs were starting to ache, and I was getting pretty frustrated. But I kept at it. And you know what? Slowly but surely, I started to get a little better. My kicks were going further and straighter. I even managed to get a few to go roughly where I was aiming. I think I got it!

By the time I packed up and went home, I was exhausted but feeling pretty good. I still have a long way to go, but I feel like I made some real progress today.

  • I realized kicking in rugby is not just about power, but also about technique and timing.
  • I learned that practice, even if it’s messy, is key to getting better.
  • I discovered that I need to study the offside rule properly, so I don’t embarrass myself in a real game.

I’ll definitely be practicing more. Maybe next time I’ll bring a friend along to help me figure out the offside thing. Or maybe I’ll just stick to kicking on my own until I get a bit more confident. We’ll see. Anyway, that’s my rugby kicking adventure for today. It’s a long way, but I will keep it going!
