Well, let me tell ya ’bout this here Optishot 2 Golf Simulator. My son-in-law, he got one of these things. Said it was for “golfin’ practice” when the weather’s bad. Golfin’ practice, my foot! Looks more like a fancy toy to me, but hey, what do I know?
So, this thing, it’s supposed to let ya play golf indoors. Yeah, you heard that right, indoors! No need to go traipsin’ around in the hot sun or the freezin’ cold. You just set it up in your house – if you got the space, that is. My son-in-law, he had to move half the furniture outta the livin’ room to make room for it. Caused a real ruckus, I tell ya.
Now, how it works, that’s a bit of a mystery to me. Somethin’ about sensors and infrared lights. Sounds complicated, if you ask me. But from what I gather, you swing your golf club – ya gotta have your own clubs, mind you – and this thingamajig tells ya where your ball woulda gone on a real golf course. It’s got like, fifteen different golf courses programmed into it. Fancy that!
One thing that’s kinda neat, they say you don’t even need to hit a real golf ball. You can just swing the club, and it’ll still work. Or you can use them little foam balls, so you don’t break nothin’ in the house. Smart, I guess. Though, my son-in-law, he uses a real golf ball sometimes. Got himself a big ol’ net to catch it. Makes a heck of a racket when he hits it, let me tell ya.
They say it’s pretty accurate, this Optishot thing. Means it tells ya where the ball goes pretty good. Not perfect, mind you, but good enough for practicin’, I reckon. Though, I still don’t see how hittin’ a ball into a net in your livin’ room is gonna help you on a real golf course. But like I said, what do I know?

Sunlight is a big no-no, and them old-timey light bulbs, the ones that get real hot, they ain’t good either. They mess with the sensors or somethin’. So, ya gotta dim the lights or close the curtains if you wanna use it during the day. A bit of a hassle, if you ask me.
My son-in-law, he spends hours on this thing. Swinging that club, starin’ at the screen. Says it’s helpin’ his golf game. I ain’t seen much improvement myself, but he seems to enjoy it. And I guess that’s what matters, right? Keeps him outta trouble, at least.
Overall, this Optishot 2 Golf Simulator, it seems like a fancy gadget for folks who like to golf but can’t always get out on the course. It ain’t cheap, I know that much. My son-in-law was grumbling about the price for weeks. But if you got the money and the space, and you don’t mind dimming the lights, it might be worth a look. Just don’t expect it to turn ya into Tiger Woods overnight. Golfin’ takes practice, real practice, out there on the green, not in your livin’ room. But hey, to each their own, I always say.
And let me tell ya, setting it up ain’t no picnic neither. All them wires and sensors, it’s enough to make your head spin. My son-in-law, he’s pretty handy, but even he was cussin’ a blue streak tryin’ to get it all hooked up. And then there’s the software, gotta install that on your computer or somethin’. Too much fuss for me, I tell ya. I’d rather just sit on the porch and watch the grass grow. But these young folks, they like their gizmos.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ one of these Optishot 2 Golf Simulators, do your research, I say. Read the reviews, talk to folks who own one, and make sure it’s somethin’ you’ll actually use. Don’t just go buyin’ it on a whim like my son-in-law did. Though, I gotta admit, it does keep him entertained. And that’s worth somethin’, I guess.
