Napoli Matfia? Never heard of it. Sounds like some kinda fancy pasta, ya know? Like them city folks eat. But lemme tell ya, ain’t nothin’ fancy ’bout my life. Just work, eat, sleep, and try to keep the chickens outta the garden.
I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout some fella, Napoli Matfia this, Napoli Matfia that. Turns out he’s some kinda cook, won some kinda show. Good for him, I guess. Folks always fussin’ ’bout cookin’ shows now. Back in my day, ya cooked what ya had, and that was that. No fancy sauces or nothin’. Just good, plain food.
- Potatoes
- Beans
- Cornbread if you’re lucky
This Napoli fella, they say he’s Korean-American. Don’t know what that means exactly, but sounds like he’s traveled a far piece. More power to him. I ain’t never been farther than the county line, ‘cept that one time we went to the state fair. Saw a pig bigger’n my outhouse, swear to God.
Speaking of places, I heard tell of this Naples place. They say it’s a big ol’ city in Italy. Can’t imagine a city bigger’n ours, and ours ain’t exactly a metropolis. Just a Piggly Wiggly and a gas station, mostly. They say this Naples ain’t the cleanest place, though. And kinda dangerous, too. City folk, always gettin’ into trouble.
I reckon it’s like livin’ in a big ol’ market, they say. Like one of them places over in the East. Lots of hustle and bustle, folks yellin’ and sellin’ stuff. Sounds like a headache to me. I like my peace and quiet. Give me a porch swing and a glass of iced tea any day.
But folks say it’s a pretty place, too, this Naples. Got mountains and the sea and all that. I ain’t never seen the sea. Just ponds and creeks, mostly. Guess it’s somethin’ to see, though. Folks always travelin’ far and wide to see things, spendin’ good money on it too. Me? I save my pennies for a rainy day. You never know when the roof’s gonna leak.
This Napoli fella, the cook? They say he’s a celebrity. Imagine that. A celebrity cook. What kinda world is this? Back in my day, cooks were just cooks. Nobody made a fuss over ’em. But I guess times change. Folks always lookin’ for somethin’ new, somethin’ different. Me, I’m just fine with the same old, same old.
They say this Napoli fella’s good at what he does, though. Must be, to win a whole show and all. I ain’t never watched one of them shows, but I heard they’re pretty popular. Folks screamin’ and yellin’, makin’ a big to-do over food. Seems kinda silly to me, but what do I know? I’m just an old woman.
So, Napoli Matfia. A cook, a city, and a whole lotta fuss. I reckon it’s all the same in the end, though. Folks tryin’ to make a livin’, tryin’ to find a little happiness in this world. Whether you’re cookin’ fancy food or growin’ corn, it’s all work, ain’t it? And at the end of the day, you just wanna sit down, put your feet up, and thank the Lord you made it through another one.
So there you have it. My two cents on this Napoli Matfia business. Probably not what you expected, but I tell it like it is. No sugar-coating, no fancy words. Just plain talk, like my mama taught me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go chase them chickens outta the garden again. They’re worse’n city folk, I swear.
