Alright, let’s talk about my time messing around with this MYAS basketball thing. I’m no pro, but I like to stay active and have some fun. So, a while back, I got involved with this MYAS basketball. It stands for Minnesota Youth Athletic Services, or something like that. Sounds official, right?
Getting Started
First, I had to get a team together. We didn’t have any basketball pros, just a bunch of regular folks who wanted to shoot some hoops and get a little exercise. We found a coach, this guy who used to play a little in high school. He was alright, nothing special, but he knew the basic stuff.
Figuring Out the League
Next, we had to figure out this whole MYAS system. They have all these leagues and tournaments. I think they call some of them “Travel Basketball League” and stuff like that. I also found out that they have a website. I checked it out, but it was kind of confusing. I mean, they do have lots of information about different sports, not just basketball, and it seems they are pretty big in Minnesota.
Signing Up and All That
We signed up for some league. I can’t even remember which one it was, but it was for our age group and skill level, which, let’s be honest, wasn’t very high. We had to fill out some forms and pay some fees. It was a bit of a hassle, but we got it done.
Playing the Games
- Then came the games. We played against other teams in the area.
- Some teams were pretty good, and others were like us, just there to have fun.

I heard that it’s used for tournament sign-ups and the rules are kind of like the Minnesota State High School League. At least, that’s what I found online, but I’m not sure if it was updated information. I also learned that they hold something called the “MYAS Grade State Championships” where they freeze team rosters after some meetings. Sounds serious, right?
The Social Media Thing
I saw somewhere that they try to get people excited about the league using social media. I guess that’s how they get the word out. It makes sense. I mean, everyone’s on social media these days, right? Oh, and I also saw that they have partnered with some other league to provide league administration services. It looks like they are trying to expand, which is cool.
Wrapping Up
Overall, it was a fun experience. I got to play some basketball, meet some new people, and get some exercise. It wasn’t anything too serious, just a good way to spend some time. I even saw some tips about starting a basketball league. I mean, MYAS is a nonprofit, so they don’t have to pay taxes. That’s pretty cool. I guess if you’re going to start a league, you should talk to a lawyer or something first. That’s way above my head, though.
