Now, I heard some people callin’ him selfish. Said he didn’t care about his teammates. But then this other fella, Gary Payton, who played with Kobe, he said that ain’t true. Said Kobe wasn’t some selfish hog. So who you gonna believe, huh? It’s all a big mess of opinions, if you ask me.
- They got all these fancy numbers they use to measure how good a player is. One of ‘em is called PER, Player Efficiency Rating. Sounds complicated, right? Well, it kinda is. But basically, it tells you how much a player does on the court, scoring and stuff. And Kobe, he did a lot of scoring, that’s for sure.
- Then there’s this other thing called true shooting percentage. That’s about how good a shooter someone is, taking into account all kinds of shots, even free throws. Kobe, he scored a bunch of points, like 25 a game on average, and his true shooting percentage was like 55, or somethin’ like that. Sounds pretty good to me, even if he did take a whole lot of shots.
Some folks like to compare Kobe to other great players, like Michael Jordan or LeBron James. They say Jordan was better ‘cause he scored more, passed more, and got more rebounds. And maybe he did. But Kobe, he had his own way of playing. He was aggressive, always attacking. Maybe that’s why people thought he was a ball hog.
They also talk about how well players do against good teams, you know, the tough ones. And seems like this other guy, Wade, did better than Kobe against those really tough teams. But against the regular teams, Kobe was right up there with the best of ‘em. So, it just depends on who they were playin’ against, I guess.
So, was Kobe a ball hog? Yeah, probably sometimes. But was he a good player? You bet your bottom dollar he was. He scored a ton of points, and he won championships. That’s what matters in the end, ain’t it? All those fancy numbers and stats, they can tell you some things, but they can’t tell you everything. You gotta watch the games, see how a player plays. And Kobe, he played hard, and he played to win. That’s all there is to it.
And you know, people are always gonna argue about who was the best. It’s just what folks do. But Kobe, he was definitely one of the greats. Ball hog or not, he left his mark on the game. And that’s somethin’ nobody can take away from him. He was a fierce competitor, and he gave it his all every time he stepped on that court. That’s what I remember about him, more than any of them numbers.
