Alright, so, you wanna hear about this Kimberly football, huh? Lemme tell ya, it’s a whole lotta fuss about boys runnin’ around with a ball. Don’t ask me all the fancy rules, I just watch ’em go back and forth, same as everyone else.
Now, I heard tell they had some kinda game, a big one, see? They call it “high school football,” like it’s somethin’ special. Well, these Kimberly fellas, they played, and I guess they won. Won big, they did, 38 to 20, or somethin’ like that. Beat some other town’s boys, Kaukauna, was it? Yeah, Kaukauna. Those boys probably went home cryin’ to their mamas, I tell ya.
- They got this one fella, Braedon somethin’-son. Fast as a jackrabbit, he is. Scored a long touchdown, they say. Ran like the devil himself was chasin’ him.
- And then there’s this other boy, Carson somethin’-ton. He throws the ball, see? Not as fast, but he gets it where it needs to go. Threw it to another boy, Marcus somethin’-ette, and they got another touchdown. Easy as pie, they made it look.
But hold on, it ain’t always sunshine and roses for these Kimberly boys. They had another game, a real tough one, I heard. Lost 27 to nothin’. Yeah, you heard that right, nothin’! Got shut out, they did. Some team called Sugar-Salem, way out west somewhere, I reckon. Those boys musta been eatin’ their Wheaties, I tell ya. Beat Kimberly somethin’ fierce.
So, it’s like this with football, see? One day you’re on top of the world, the next you’re in the dirt. These Kimberly boys, they gotta learn that. Can’t get too cocky when you win, can’t get too down when you lose. Just gotta keep playin’, keep runnin’, keep throwin’ that ball.
And the folks around here, they love it, I tell ya. They go crazy for this football. Friday nights, the whole town’s at the game, cheerin’ and yellin’. Makes ya wonder what they’re all so excited about. It’s just a game, ain’t it? But I guess it’s more than that to some folks. It’s pride, it’s community, it’s… well, it’s somethin’, that’s for sure.
They got this fella, Brett Christopherson, he writes about the games, I think. Puts it in the newspaper or somethin’. Tells everyone what happened, who scored, who won, who lost. I don’t read it much myself, but my grandson, he likes it. Keeps track of all the scores, all the players. He’s a real football nut, that one.
And this Kimberly team, they started their season a little late, I heard. Seems the other team, they didn’t show up or somethin’. Forfeited, they called it. So, Kimberly got a win without even playin’. Lucky ducks, I say. But then they had to play for real, and that’s when the real games started. Some they won, some they lost. That’s just how it goes.
They even got this Hunter Berry fella, kicks the ball through them tall posts, gets ‘em points. A field goal, they call it. Thirty-three yards, he kicked it, I heard. That’s a long way, I reckon. Must have a strong leg, that boy.
So that’s the story on Kimberly football, as far as I can tell ya. Boys runnin’, boys throwin’, boys kickin’. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. And the whole town goes wild either way. It’s a funny thing, this football, but it sure does get people riled up. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about football’s made me hungry.
