Man, I was trying to fix up my old Golf 2, and let me tell you, finding the right parts for these older cars can be such a pain. I was messing around with the battery cover and intercooler, and I noticed this grill part, the air guide, was all busted up. I looked it up, and the part number is 191 121 341.

I found a lot of different items but all for other car models. It was really frustrating. I even looked up on eBay but I had no luck this time.
Then, I remembered that 3D printing is a thing now. I mean, people are 3D printing all sorts of stuff, so why not a car part? I found a couple of forums where other Golf 2 owners were talking about 3D printing this exact part. They shared some designs and talked about what materials worked best.
I don’t have a 3D printer myself, but I found a local place that does 3D printing services. I sent them the design I found online, and they printed it out for me. It wasn’t super cheap, but it was way cheaper than trying to get an original part shipped from overseas. Then I found a website that sells new spring seats for this model, and ordered one for my car.
When I got the 3D printed grill, I was actually surprised at how good it looked. I mean, it’s not perfect, but it fit perfectly, and it’s definitely better than the broken one I had before. The new spring seat also works very well, I feel my car is new.
So, yeah, if you’re ever trying to fix up an old car and you’re having trouble finding parts, don’t forget about 3D printing. It might just save you a lot of time and money. And also, don’t be afraid to explore alternative solutions. It can get a little frustrating when you have to do a lot of research, but in the end it was worth it. I fixed my old Golf and learned a lot about 3D printing!
