How to make a large shadow box? Try these simple DIY steps to create a personalized display case!
Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to do something cool with this old, kinda beat-up book I found at a garage sale. It’s got a really neat cover, but the pages are, well, let’s just say they’ve seen better days. I didn’t want to just toss it, so I figured, why not turn it into some kind of art?
That’s when I remembered seeing these shadow box things online. Basically, it’s like a deep picture frame where you can put 3D stuff, not just flat pictures. I thought, “Perfect! I can totally put this book in one of those and hang it up!”
Getting Started
First things first, I needed a shadow box. I found a pretty decent-sized one at a craft store. It wasn’t too expensive, which was good because I wasn’t sure how this whole thing would turn out.
Figuring It Out
Next, I had to figure out how to get the book inside. The shadow box opens up from the back, like a regular picture frame, only deeper. I laid the book inside, right in the center. It looked a little plain just sitting there, so I grabbed a ruler and tried to center it properly. After some adjusting, I thought it looked pretty good.
The Tricky Part
Now, here’s where it got a little tricky. I needed to keep the book in place. I didn’t want to glue it or anything permanent like that. I remembered seeing someone use pins in a video online to hold things in place in a shadow box. I grabbed some of those display pins, I think they’re called. I used them to secure the book by its spine.
It took a few tries, but I finally got it to stay put. Then, I carefully put the back of the shadow box back on.
Hanging It Up
All that was left was to hang it up! I found a good spot on my wall, and there you have it. My old book is now a cool piece of wall art. I thought about doing a grid with more books, but I’ll start with this one for now.
It was a fun little project, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s definitely a unique way to display something you don’t want to throw away but can’t really use anymore. If you’ve got any old books or other cool objects lying around, you should totally try making a shadow box!
