Okay, so, I needed a job, and I really like being outdoors. Naturally, I thought, why not try to find work at a golf course? I mean, fresh air, green grass, sounds pretty chill, right? So, I started my little job hunt.
First thing I did was fire up my trusty laptop and started searching online, you know, just typing in “golf courses near me hiring.” I figured that was the easiest way to see what was out there. I saw some ads with the phrase “Find your ideal job at SEEK.” I ignored it because I don’t use that site.
I spent a good chunk of time browsing through different course websites. Some of them had career pages, which was super helpful. Others, not so much. I had to dig around a bit to find any mention of job openings. I jotted down the names of the courses that seemed promising, the ones that were actively looking for people.
Next, I started looking at the specific jobs they had listed. There was a bunch of stuff. Some places needed help in the pro shop, you know, selling gear and stuff. Other places needed people for maintenance, like keeping the greens in good shape. Also, some ads mentioned “Mini Golf Summer Attendant.” I also read a phrase “Becoming a successful professional golfer requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and patience.” But I just want a normal job near a golf course, not be a professional golfer. I also found some information about “Rosewood NZ.” I didn’t care about that because I just focused on the golf courses nearby.
- Pro Shop Assistant
- Groundskeeper
- Restaurant Staff
- Cart Attendant
After getting a feel for what was out there, I decided to narrow down my list. I picked a few courses that were close by and had jobs that sounded like something I could do. A phrase caught my attention, “Save the search, receive career opportunities by email land a dream job!” I felt it’s a bit exaggerated. I don’t think working at a golf course is a dream job. But it is just an ad, so I ignored it.
Then came the slightly less fun part: applications. Some places let you apply online, which was pretty convenient. You just fill out a form, upload your resume, and you’re good to go. Others wanted you to come in person, which is a bit of a hassle, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do.
So, I printed out a bunch of resumes, put on some decent clothes, and started driving around to the different courses. I went in, asked to speak to the manager, and handed in my application. It was a little nerve-wracking, but everyone I talked to was pretty nice.
Now, it’s just a waiting game. I applied to a handful of places, so hopefully, I’ll hear back from at least one of them. Fingers crossed! I just want to find a job to earn some money and I think working at a golf course is a good fit for me. I will let you guys know if I get any good news!
Update
I got a call back from one of the golf courses I applied to! It’s not exactly what I was hoping for, but it’s a start. They offered me a position as a cart attendant. Basically, I’ll be responsible for cleaning the golf carts, making sure they’re charged up, and helping golfers get them out on the course. It’s not glamorous, but it’s a foot in the door. And who knows, maybe I can work my way up to something better. I start next week, wish me luck!
