Then there’s the kids. They got all sorts of levels for ‘em. “Competition levels,” they call it. Guess that means some kids are better than others. Just like in life, ain’t it? Some folks are just born with a silver spoon, or a golden racket, maybe.
And the parents, oh boy, they got somethin’ for them too. A meetin’ they call it, PACT meetin’. Stands for somethin’ or other, somethin’ about parents and tennis. You go there, meet other folks, figure out how to make your kid the next Serena or somethin’. They yap and yap, drink coffee, probably gossip too. Just like hens in a henhouse, if you ask me.
- Tennis for the young’uns They got this here “Orange Ball” thing for the little ones. A tournament, they call it. The “Turkey Bowl.” Happenin’ in the fall, I think. Sounds silly, but the kids love it. Runnin’ around, hittin’ them orange balls. Cute as buttons, some of ’em.
- Holiday Time They close up shop for a bit in the winter. Between Christmas and New Year’s, they say. Probably too cold for them city folks to play tennis. Us country folk, we just bundle up, but them city folks, they delicate, ya know?
Now, they got rules, mind you. Gotta wear the right shoes, they say. Smooth-soles, whatever that means. And only six balls on the court at a time. Why six? Who knows. Maybe they think you can’t handle more than that. They’re open most of the day, from mornin’ till dark. “Dusk,” they call it. Fancy words, these city folks use.
You can even book a court online, they say. Or call ‘em on the phone. They got a number and an email. Fancy stuff. They got programs for the kids, too. “Junior Programs,” they call ’em. Summer and winter. Keep them young’uns busy, I guess. And a guide for the parents, tellin’ ’em how to help their kids get good at tennis. Like I said, they want their kids to be the next tennis stars.
So, that’s the lowdown on them cunningham tennis courts. Nothin’ too fancy, just tennis. But they got it all organized and such. City folks like things organized, ya know? Me, I just like to keep things simple. But hey, if you like tennis, it seems like a decent place to play. Just remember to wear them smooth-sole shoes and don’t bring more than six balls. And maybe go to that PACT meetin’ if you wanna make your kid a star. Or just let ’em have fun, that’s what I say.
In my opinion, tennis is tennis, no matter how fancy they make it sound. It’s about hittin’ a ball back and forth, gettin’ some exercise, and havin’ a good time. Don’t need no fancy words or rules for that. Just a racket, a ball, and a court. And maybe a friend or two to play with. That’s all there is to it, folks.
