Get Ready for Northern Michigan University Football: 2024 Season Preview
Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Northern Michigan University football, ya know, the kind them youngsters play. It ain’t like the cornhole we play at the county fair, no sir. These boys, they run and tumble around like a bunch of wild chickens.
Them Wildcat Boys, that’s what they call ’em. I reckon it’s ‘cause they scrap and fight for that ol’ ball like a bunch of wildcats. They play this…football… at a place called Northern Michigan University. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it’s just a bunch of boys tryin’ to throw a pointy ball around.

- Sometimes they fall down, poor things.
This year, they got a whole bunch of games lined up. ESPN, that TV fella, they got the whole schedule. Said somethin’ ‘bout “NCAAF schedule.” Don’t ask me what that means, sounds like gibberish to me. All I know is them boys got a lot of games to play. Some of ‘em are at home, at that big dome place, Superior Dome they call it. Fancy name for a roofed-over field, if you ask me.
Now, sometimes they gotta go on the road, travelin’ far and wide to play other teams. They was on the road at the start of the season, and they gonna be on the road again this weekend, I heard. Gotta pack up all their gear and go play somewhere else. Sounds like a lot of fuss to me.
This past season, they had some wins and some losses. That’s just how it goes, I guess. Can’t win ‘em all. They was tryin’ real hard to get that first win, just like last year. It ain’t easy, ya know. These other teams, they want to win too. It’s a fight, a real tussle out there on that field.
Heard tell they got a big game comin’ up, the last home game. Gonna be a special one, they say. Honorin’ the old fellers, the seniors they call ‘em. And somethin’ ‘bout the armed forces too. Guess it’s like a big ol’ thank you to everyone.
Michigan football, that’s a big deal ‘round here. Everyone talks about it. Them newspapers, they got stories about the biggest games, and who they got playin’ for them and all that stuff. They talk about “transfers,” I don’t rightly know what that means, sounds like they’re movin’ around like them hobos down by the railroad tracks.
Then there’s this talk about “bowl games.” Bowl games? Sounds like a bunch of folks sittin’ around eatin’ soup. But apparently, it’s somethin’ important. The best teams, they get to play in these bowl games after the regular season. It’s like a big to-do.
Northern Michigan University, they got some fancy fields and stuff. They say it’s the best around, for college teams like them. They even got some rivals, other schools up here in the upper peninsula. Michigan Tech, that’s one of ‘em. Guess they don’t like each other too much, always tryin’ to beat each other at this football game.
So, that’s the lowdown on this Northern Michigan University football. A bunch of boys runnin’ around, throwin’ a ball, tryin’ to win games. It ain’t always pretty, and sometimes you can’t make heads or tails of it. But folks seem to like it. Me? I prefer a good game of bingo, myself. But these youngsters, they got their football, and that’s alright by me. Keeps ‘em outta trouble, I reckon.
They playin’ hard though, and that’s what counts, right? Just like when we was young and had to work the farm all day. Gotta put in the effort, gotta give it your all, no matter what you’re doin’. So, good luck to them Wildcat boys. Hope they win some games, and hope they don’t get hurt too bad. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll even watch a game or two, if I ain’t got nothin’ better to do.
The season, it goes by fast, then they gotta wait till next year to do it all over again. It’s a cycle, like plantin’ and harvestin’. Just gotta keep goin’, keep tryin’ your best, and see what happens.
