They’re playing in the National Collegiate Rugby thing, that’s what they tell me. They even went to Houston, Texas, to play in some fancy stadium. SaberCats Stadium, they called it. Sounded real fancy.
And this year, they’re at it again! Heard they beat some team called Saint Joe’s, beat ’em real bad, somethin’ like 63 to 17. Sounds like them Wildcats are on a roll, goin’ to some kinda “Final Four” thing. Hope they win it all, make Kentucky proud, you know?

Seems like these Wildcats got big plans, want to be the best in the whole country. That’s what I heard, anyway. They got some kinda Facebook page, sayin’ they wanna be one of them “premier rugby programs.” Don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds important. They got a lot of likes on that page, too. Thousands of ‘em. Folks seem to like watchin’ these boys play.

They got a bunch of games comin’ up, too. This fall, they’re gonna be playin’ all sorts of teams, big and small. Heard they’re playin’ some real tough fellas, teams from all over. That’s what they call D1AA, NCR D1 and D1A teams. Sounds like they ain’t afraid of nobody. Guess that’s how you get to be the best.
They Even Beat Them Other SEC Teams
And get this, they ain’t just playin’ those little schools. They’re playin’ them big SEC schools too, the ones with all the fancy football teams. And they’re beatin’ ‘em! Heard they beat one team 51 to 12. Just stomped ‘em, like. Showed them fancy boys that Kentucky ain’t just about basketball and horse racin’.
Kentucky Rugby: A Tough Game
This rugby ain’t for the faint of heart, I tell ya. Them boys are tough, runnin’ and hittin’ and gettin’ all muddied up. But they seem to love it, and the folks watchin’ love it too. It’s excitin’, fast-paced, and you never know what’s gonna happen next. One minute they’re runnin’ this way, the next they’re runnin’ that way. It’s like a swarm of bees, but with a ball.
