Alright, so you wanna know about this “egriz football”, huh? I ain’t no expert, but I’ll tell ya what I know, the way I know it. Don’t expect no fancy words or nothin’, just plain talk, ya hear?
First off, they call ’em the “Grizzlies”. Sounds like a big ol’ bear, right? These Grizzlies, they play some kinda college football. Big deal, I guess, lots of young fellas runnin’ around and knockin’ each other down. They say it’s Division I, somethin’ called FCS. Means nothin’ to me, but folks seem to care.
Now, about how they play, I heard some things. Seems like they got rules, lots of ’em. They can only have four fellas in the backfield, that’s what they call it. And the rest gotta line up, seven or more of ’em, like they’re gettin’ ready to plow a field. The other guys, they can stand wherever they want, long as they ain’t too close to the line. Gotta be a yard back, at least. Sounds complicated, if you ask me. Why can’t they just run and throw the ball without all that fuss?
- They got this big stadium, they call it Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Sounds fancy, huh? That’s where these Grizzlies play their games. Lots of folks go there, cheer and holler. I bet it gets loud.
- And then there’s these fan forums. That’s what the youngsters call ’em. It’s like a big gossip circle, but online. They talk about the Grizzlies, the football and some other stuff too. Basketball, I think. I don’t get it, but they seem to like it.
They got a website too, official and all. It tells ya all about the team, when they playin’ and who’s playin’. They got this schedule, says when the games are. Looks like a lot of dates and times, I can’t make heads or tails of it. But if you’re into that sorta thing, I guess it’s useful.
They also got this thing called “low down” on the Griz and FCS football. Seems like people are always tryin’ to figure out what’s gonna happen, who’s gonna win. They talk about it, argue about it, it’s a whole thing. Me? I just care about who’s bringin’ the potato salad to the picnic.
I heard some folks sayin’ these Grizzlies are a big deal in Montana. University of Montana, that’s what they call it. Sounds like a place with a lot of learnin’, but all I hear about is the football. They got a whole athletics department, not just football. But the football, that’s what gets all the attention, I reckon.
So, there ya have it. That’s what I know about this “egriz football.” It’s a bunch of young fellas runnin’ around, folks cheerin’, and lots of talkin’. And from what I gather, those Grizzlies are a pretty big deal ’round here. But me? I still think watchin’ the chickens peck is more entertainin’. At least you know what they’re gonna do.
