Well, let me tell ya ’bout them EC Glass girls tennis players. Them gals, they’re somethin’ else, I tell ya. They been playin’ their hearts out on that there court, smackin’ that fuzzy yellow ball back and forth.
I heard tell they got a real good team this year. Folks sayin’ they’re a “significant force” in the tennis world. Now, I don’t know much ’bout that “significant force” stuff, sounds fancy. But I do know they been winnin’ a whole heap of matches. They won six and lost two, that’s what I heard. Then they went on to some kinda regional play, and I reckon they done good there too.
Them girls, they practice hard. I seen ’em sometimes, runnin’ and hittin’ those balls. Makes me tired just watchin’ ’em! They got this one coach, I think her name’s somethin’ like Sherri. She seems real nice, always encouragin’ them gals. She posted somethin’ on that there internet, congratulatin’ the team for winnin’ and gettin’ a spot in some state thing. Good for them, I say!
They even got some kinda fancy school principal, Dr. Dani Rule her name is. She runs that EC Glass High School over on Memorial Avenue. Must be a good school, producin’ all them good tennis players. Them young’uns are real dedicated, always trainin’ and tryin’ to get better.
- They got seniors on the team, gonna be graduatin’ soon. Hope they keep playin’ tennis, wherever they go.
- And they got some younger gals too, sophomores and juniors, just startin’ out. They got a JV team, that’s the junior varsity, for the younger ones to learn.
- They play matches at home, on their own courts. And sometimes they travel to other schools to play. It’s a big deal, I tell ya.
I heard tell they had a clean sweep, somethin’ they call a “Seminole sweep.” Don’t know what that is exactly, sounds like somethin’ you do with a broom. But I guess it means they won all their matches, which is pretty darn good. They even got on the TV, on that ABC 13 channel. They was the “High School Team of the Week,” both the girls and the boys teams. Them boys play tennis too, but this here article is ’bout them gals.
Sometimes they play matches in the afternoon, ’round 4:30. They don’t let just anybody in to watch, though. You gotta be on some kinda “approved guest list.” I guess they don’t want no riff-raff causin’ trouble. They take their tennis serious, them gals do.
EC Glass Girls Tennis, they’re somethin’ special. They make us proud, they do. They work hard, play hard, and they win. And that’s all there is to it, ain’t it? Just good, clean fun, and a whole lotta smackin’ that little yellow ball. I tell ya, them gals are goin’ places.
