Alright, so you wanna know about this Downers Grove North football, huh? Okay, okay, I’ll tell ya what I know. Don’t expect no fancy talk though, I just tell it like it is.
First off, them boys at Downers Grove North High School, they play some football. Real football, not that sissy stuff you see sometimes. They got a team, the Trojans they call ‘em, and they been playin’ pretty good. I heard they won a bunch of games this year, like ten of ‘em, maybe lost two. That’s pretty darn good, I tell ya.
They’re in somethin’ called the West Suburban Conference, Silver Conference, I think. Sounds fancy, but it just means they play against other schools ‘round here. And they did good! Came in second, they did. Almost won the whole thing. Almost.
I saw some folks talkin’ ‘bout their schedule. Said they played a team from O’Fallon and beat ‘em real good, 42 to nothin’. Whipped ‘em good, they did! They play most of their games at home, which is nice for the folks ‘round here. Don’t gotta drive all over creation to see ‘em play.
- They got a website and all, somethin’ about athletics and such. You can find all the games and scores and pictures there, if you’re into that computer stuff. I ain’t, too much trouble.
- They also got a fella, Joe somethin’ or other, he’s the coach. He must be doin’ somethin’ right, seein’ as how good them boys are playin’. Good coach, that’s what they need.
- And the school, Downers Grove North, it’s a big one. Lots of kids go there. They got all sorts of fancy classes, AP this and AP that. Smart kids, playin’ football. Who knew?
They even got some kinda playoff game, quarterfinal somethin’ or other. Played against Batavia, they did. Don’t know who won that one, but it sounds important. They even put it on the TV, or the computer, or somethin’. Live and on demand, they call it. Fancy.
Them boys score a lot of points too, 400 they said. That’s a whole heap of points! Only let the other teams score 118. That means they got a good defense, see? Don’t let the other fellas get by. That’s important in football, stoppin’ the other team.
They lost one game recently, though. Got a “streak” of one loss, they said. Well, nobody wins all the time, that’s just life. Even the best teams lose sometimes. They’ll bounce back, I betcha. Tough kids, them Trojans.
So, that’s the lowdown on Downers Grove North football, as best as I can tell ya. Good team, good coach, play hard, win a lot of games. What more you wanna know? Go watch ‘em play sometime, if you got a mind to. It’s more fun than sittin’ ‘round here twiddlin’ your thumbs, that’s for sure.
And don’t forget, they’re a high school team, so these kids are still learnin’. They ain’t professionals yet, but they play with a lot of heart. That’s what matters, playin’ with heart. Win or lose, you gotta give it your all. That’s what them boys at Downers Grove North do, I reckon.
