Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya’ll about this here OSSAA basketball state tournament 2024. It’s a big to-do, you know, like them county fairs but with more bouncing balls and less prize-winning pigs.
First off, they got all sorts of schools playing, from the big city slickers to the little country bumpkin schools like, well, never you mind. They call ‘em Class 6A, 5A, all the way down to 2A and even A. Sounds fancy, but it just means some schools got more young’uns than others. And they all wanna be the top dog, or top… basketball player, I guess.
Now, this here tournament, it ain’t just one day and done. It goes on for a spell. They started some of it back in February, end of the month, and went into March. Heard they played some games at that Lloyd Noble Center in Norman. Fancy place, I reckon, probably got them shiny floors and everything. And they had some games at the State Fair Arena too. That’s where they usually have the pig races, so it musta’ smelled interestin’.
- Big schools (6A and 5A) played at the Lloyd Noble Center.
- Smaller schools (4A and down) played at the State Fair Arena and other places, I guess.
- The whole shebang started around the end of February and went into March.
They had the boys playing and the girls playing. Separate teams, of course. Can’t have the boys and girls scrappin’ over the same ball, now can we? Heard them girls were just as tough as the boys, too. Runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ that ball like their lives depended on it.
Now, I ain’t no expert on this basketball stuff, but I know a win when I see one. And these kids, they sure wanted to win. They played hard, runnin’ up and down that court, dribblin’ the ball, and throwin’ it up at that hoop thing. Sometimes it goes in, sometimes it don’t. That’s just how it is, like plantin’ corn, sometimes it grows, sometimes it don’t.
The games themselves? Well, they’re about 32 minutes long, split up into four parts, eight minutes each. They get a little break in the middle, which I reckon they need, all that runnin’ around is enough to make an old lady like me tired just watchin’!
And let me tell ya, this tournament, it ain’t just some small thing. Folks come from all over to watch these young’uns play. Must be somethin’ excitin’ about it, though I still say pig races are more my speed. But hey, to each their own, right? I heard tell that even them folks from the Oklahoma Sports Network were there, watchin’ and film’in. Guess they wanted to show everyone what was happenin’.
Speaking of watchin’, they have these things called brackets. Looks like a big ol’ family tree, but instead of names, it’s got the school names. And as they win, they move up the bracket, until there’s only one team left standin’. That’s the champion, the big cheese, the top of the heap.
This year, for the boys, they had different classes like 3A and all that. And each class had its own winner. Same thing for the girls. It’s a whole lot of winnin’ goin’ on. Must make them kids and their mamas and daddies real proud.
Now, I heard they even got bigger tournaments than this, like the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament up in Minneapolis. That’s a whole ‘nother level, I reckon. But this here OSSAA tournament, it’s our tournament, Oklahoma’s tournament. And it’s a big deal for these kids and these towns.
So, that’s the gist of it, the OSSAA basketball state tournament 2024 in a nutshell. A whole lotta basketball, a whole lotta runnin’, and a whole lotta winnin’. And me? I’m just here tellin’ ya’ll about it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens.
One more thing! Seems like they have some trouble findin’ games sometimes. I heard tell they had a schedule for December 4th, but it said “No Scheduled Games” for all the classes. Maybe they were all too busy milkin’ cows that day, I don’t know.
