Alright, let’s talk about them football goal thingies and the nets, you know, the ones the kids kick the ball into. I ain’t no expert, but I seen enough games and my grandkids playin’ in the yard to know a thing or two.
First off, you gotta have a good goal. Them things come in all sorts of sizes, I tell ya. Some big, some small. My grandboy, he’s got this little one in the backyard, just right for him. But the ones them fellers on TV use, them’s huge! Heard tell they’re like 24 feet wide and 8 feet high. That’s a lot of space to cover, I reckon. Makes it harder to stop that ball, that’s for sure.
Now, about them nets. They’re important, real important. Can’t have a goal without a net, or where the ball gonna go, right? Just flyin’ off somewhere. You want a net that’s strong, you know? One that can take a beatin’. Them kids kick hard, they do. And that ball, it comes flyin’ fast. So, you don’t want no flimsy net that’s gonna tear after a few good kicks. I seen some nets made of that…uh… poly… poly-something stuff. Seems strong enough, I guess. And some are thicker than others, like that 4 mm cord they talk about. The thicker the better, I always say.
And get this, some nets, they ain’t just for any old goal. You gotta get the right size. Like, if you got a big ol’ goal, you need a big ol’ net. Makes sense, right? Can’t put a small sock on a big foot, can ya? Same goes for nets and goals. They gotta match. You can get them full-size ones, the kind they use in the big games, or smaller ones for practice and the backyard.
- Backyard practice nets: smaller ones for the little kids.
- Full-size nets: them big ones for the real games.
- Heavy-duty nets: the strong ones that don’t tear easy.
You can find these nets all over the place. Online, in the stores, everywhere you look practically. They got all sorts of brands too. Diamond somethin’-or-other, Aoneky, and a whole bunch more I can’t even pronounce. Just make sure you get one that’s good quality, you know? Don’t want to be buyin’ a new net every other week. That ain’t right. Spend a little extra, get a good one, and it’ll last you longer. That’s what my old man always said, and he was a smart feller, he was.
And speaking of goals, you ever heard them fellers on TV talkin’ about a “haul”? That’s when some feller scores four goals in a game. Four! That’s a lot of goals, I tell ya. Then there’s a “glut,” that’s five goals, and a “double hat trick,” that’s six! Imagine that, six goals! Them fellers must be real good at kickin’ that ball.
Now, let’s get to them lines on the field. They got lines everywhere, I swear. But the ones around the goal, they’re important. There’s this box, the “goal area” they call it. It’s like a little safe zone for the goalie, I guess. Them lines are marked off real careful, 5.5 meters from the goalposts, they say. Everything’s gotta be measured just right, it seems. And them goalposts, they gotta be the same too, same width and shape, no funny business.
