Alright, alright, let’s talk about this… thingy… False Idols, yeah, that’s what them young folks call it. Sounds fancy, but it’s just another one of them pokey sticks they use in that… uh… Destiny 2 game. My grandson, he plays it all the time, yelling at the TV like a rooster with its tail feathers caught in the fence. So, I see him fiddling with this False Idols thing, and I ask him, “What’s that good for, boy?” And he starts blabberin’ about “perks” and “rolls” and all sorts of gibberish. Made my head spin, I tell ya.
But I got eyes, don’t I? I can see it’s a sword, a shiny one, too. Reminds me of that old butcher knife Pa used to have, sharp as a whistle. This False Idols, though, it’s got more than just sharpness, apparently. Them young’uns, they’re always lookin’ for the best “god roll,” they say. Means the bestest, strongest way to make that sword work, I guess. Like finding the sweetest apple on the whole tree, only this apple can slice and dice them space monsters they’re always fightin’.
So, what makes a good False Idols? Well, from what I gathered listenin’ to my grandson and his loud friends, it ain’t just about swingin’ it around like a crazy chicken. You gotta have the right “perks.” Now, don’t ask me what a perk is exactly, but it sounds like magic sprinkles you put on your sword to make it better. Some perks make it hit harder, some make it faster, some do… other things. My grandson is always yellin’ about wanting “Relentless Strikes” and “Whirlwind Blade.” Sounds like a whole lotta fuss to me. Back in my day, a sword was a sword. You swung it, it cut. Simple as that.
- Relentless Strikes: Means you hit more, I guess. Like hittin’ a nail three times instead of just once.
- Whirlwind Blade: Makes the sword spin around like a twister, I reckon. Probably makes it cut more things at once.
They also talk about “stats” and “magazines” for this sword, which don’t make no sense to me. A magazine is for readin’, not for pokin’! But apparently, it has something to do with how much damage it does and how fast you can swing it. They got charts and numbers and all sorts of complicated stuff. Me? I just look at how sharp it is. If it can slice a tomato clean in half, it’s good enough for me.
And get this, you can change them perks and stats too! Like changin’ the tires on a tractor, I suppose. You can put on different “mods,” they call ‘em, to make the sword work different ways. Sounds like a whole lot of work to me. Why can’t they just leave well enough alone? But then again, these young folks always gotta be tinkerin’ with stuff, never satisfied.
This whole False Idols thing, it’s got me thinkin’. It’s just a game, right? But even in a game, they’re still lookin’ for the best, the strongest, the most powerful. Reminds me of folks in town, always tryin’ to outdo each other, get the bigger tractor, the bigger house. Always chasin’ after somethin’. And what for? In the end, ain’t we all just gonna end up six feet under anyway? Makes you wonder, don’t it?
So, this False Idols, it’s a sword, a fancy one, with lots of complicated stuff you can do to it. But in the end, it’s just a tool, like a hoe or an axe. It’s what you do with it that matters, I reckon. And maybe, just maybe, these young folks are learnin’ a thing or two about workin’ hard and gettin’ things done, even if it’s just in a pretend world. Though I still think they spend too much time starin’ at that dang TV.
Anyways, that’s about all I can tell ya about this False Idols thing. It’s a pokey stick with magic sprinkles, and them young folks seem to like it a whole lot. Me? I’ll stick to my gardenin’ tools, thank you very much. At least I know what they do.
