Delaware Hayes Basketball: Why This Team is One to Watch in High School Hoops
This here’s about that Delaware Hayes basketball. My grandson, he’s always going on about it, so I figured I’d try to understand what all the fuss is about. Seems like a big deal in these parts. They are talking about it all the time.
I heard some folks talkin’ at the market the other day, somethin’ about a game on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. They said it was gonna be a real barn-burner. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds excitin’. Maybe it’s one of them big games they all get worked up about. I guess I will hear more about it.
They got these kids playin’ basketball, and they all runnin’ up and down the court. Throwin’ that ball around. My old knees hurt just watchin’ ’em! Back in my day, we didn’t have all this fancy basketball. We just tossed a ball around in the yard, if we had a ball. But these youngsters, they take it real serious. Practice, practice, practice. That’s all I hear about. And they got these special shoes and everything, makes my head spin to think of it.
Delaware Hayes basketball, that’s the name they keep sayin’. Must be some big team around here. They got this fella, Jordan, I hear. Someone was saying he’s from Laney High School, wherever that is. Seems like he’s real good at throwin’ that ball. They said he is good. But I don’t know. Back in my day, it was who can work the hardest, not throw the ball the best.
This whole basketball thing, it’s a big to-do. Folks gather ’round, cheerin’ and hollerin’. It’s like a big party, but with a lot more runnin’. I guess I should try to understand it more. My grandson seems to love it. He’s always watchin’ it on that little TV screen of his. Says it’s important to keep up with the Delaware Hayes basketball team.
I reckon it’s good for the young folks to have somethin’ to do. Keeps ’em out of trouble, I suppose. Better than runnin’ around in the streets, causin’ mischief. At least they’re gettin’ some exercise, runnin’ up and down that court. Lord knows they need it, with all that junk food they eat these days.
These games, they get everyone all riled up. I hear ’em talkin’ about it for days after. Who won, who lost, who did what. It is all they seem to talk about sometimes. It’s all a bit much for me, but I try to listen. It’s nice to see folks excited about somethin’. And I guess it brings the community together, this Delaware Hayes basketball.

This Delaware Hayes basketball, it’s somethin’ special to these parts, I can tell. It’s more than just a game. It’s about community. About the young people who play it. I reckon that’s somethin’ worth payin’ attention to. Even if I don’t understand all the rules.
They say this Jordan fella, he wasn’t even good enough to play for his high school team at first. Can you believe that? Now look at him, all famous and such. Just goes to show, you never know what life’s gonna throw your way. You just gotta keep your head down and keep workin’ hard. That’s what I always say. You got to work hard, like the old days.
I remember when they built that new gym. It was a big thing, they said it was great. I don’t know what they had wrong with the old one. All that money, seems like a waste to me. But I guess that’s progress for ya. Always gotta have the newest and the best, even if it ain’t necessary. I still think it was a waste of money. But no one asked me, did they?
Well, I suppose I should try to learn a bit more about this Delaware Hayes basketball. For my grandson’s sake, if nothin’ else. Maybe I’ll even go to one of them games one day. Just to see what all the fuss is about. But I’ll probably just end up sittin’ there, confused as ever. But hey, at least I’ll be there. That’s what counts, right? Being there for your family. That’s more important than any basketball game.
These young folks today, they got it good. They got their sports and their fancy schools and their technology. We didn’t have any of that when I was young. We had to make our own fun. But I guess that’s just the way things are now. Times change. You gotta change with ’em, I suppose. Even if it means tryin’ to understand somethin’ as crazy as basketball.
Maybe this Delaware Hayes basketball is a good thing. Maybe it is important. I don’t know. But if it makes my grandson happy, then I guess it’s alright by me. That’s all that really matters in the end, ain’t it? Family. And maybe a little bit of basketball, too, I suppose. This town sure seems to think so.
