So, I finally decided to set up a golf impact screen at home. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and with a little extra time on my hands, I thought, why not? Let’s do this.
First things first, I had to figure out where to put this thing. Golf simulator rooms, I read, come in all shapes and sizes. I measured my spare room, from wall to wall, and from floor to ceiling. Got a good idea of the space I was working with. I decided that the screen should be as large as possible within the room, and it was especially important that it be tall enough to catch those high shots from my short irons.
Next, I started looking into the screen itself. What’s it made of? How tough is it? I learned that choosing the right material is super important, especially considering how often I planned to use it. You don’t want something that’s gonna wear out after a few rounds.
Then there was the whole speed thing. Apparently, if you’re hitting balls at speeds up to 250 mph, you need a screen that can handle it. I’m not quite at that level, but hey, it’s good to know what these screens can take.
Choosing the right impact screen brand was another task. I came across names like Indoor Golf Shop and Carl’s Place. Never heard of them before, to be honest, but they seemed to be the go-to brands for this kind of stuff. I read a bunch of reviews and compared their products. It was a bit overwhelming, but I wanted to make sure I was getting the best bang for my buck.

After all that, I finally made my choice and ordered the screen. Setting it up was a whole other adventure. I followed the instructions, got some help from a buddy, and after a few hours of tinkering, we had it up and running.
Once the screen was in place, I had to think about the projector. What image ratio should I use? Did I mind those white bars on the sides? I played around with the settings until I found something that looked good to my eyes.
Beyond Just Playing
But it wasn’t just about hitting a few balls. Setting up a home golf simulator opened up a whole new world of practice. I could work on different modes, try out skills challenges, and really dial in my distances. I even started practicing shaping my shots, which was something I never really focused on before.
So, there you have it. My journey from a bare room to a full-on home golf setup. It was a bit of work, sure, but totally worth it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some practicing to do!
