Yesterday, I wanted to set up a rugby goal post in my backyard. I’ve always been a big fan of rugby, and with the kids getting older, I figured it would be a fun addition to our outdoor activities.
I started by looking up some options online. I saw a bunch of different types, from ones made for kids to those big professional ones. I remembered seeing something about “Samba Sports Football Rugby Goal Post” and “SAMBA” brand. It mentioned something about being made in the UK and being really sturdy, so I decided to go with that brand. Seemed like a good choice since they’ve been around for like 29 years. Must be doing something right, huh?
Measure and Mark
First thing I did was measure out the space in the backyard. I wanted to make sure I had enough room for the goal post and for the kids to run around without bumping into anything. I grabbed my measuring tape and marked out a 12′ x 6′ area, just like the size mentioned for the Samba goal post. I used some old spray paint to mark the corners so I wouldn’t lose my spot.
Assemble the Frame
Next, I started putting the frame together. The instructions were pretty straightforward, even for someone like me who’s not exactly a DIY expert. I laid out all the pieces on the ground, double-checking that I had everything. Then, I started connecting the poles, following the pictures in the manual. It was a bit like a big puzzle, but it all came together nicely.
Attach the Net
With the frame all set, it was time to attach the net. This was a bit trickier, but I managed. I started from the top, securing the net to the crossbar, and then worked my way down the sides and the back. I made sure it was nice and tight so the ball wouldn’t just fly through.
Secure the Goal Post
The last step was securing the whole thing to the ground. I didn’t want it to topple over when the kids started kicking the ball around. The goal post came with some ground anchors, so I hammered those into the ground at each corner of the frame. It felt really solid after that. I even gave it a good shake to test it out, and it didn’t budge.
Final Touches
Finally, I stepped back to admire my handiwork. It looked great! I grabbed a rugby ball and took a few practice kicks. It felt so good to see the ball sail through the posts. I called the kids out, and their eyes lit up when they saw the new goal post. We spent the rest of the afternoon playing, and it was a blast.
