Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole senior pictures thing, and I wanted to do something a bit different. Since I’m pretty into golf, I figured, why not make that the theme? It took some trial and error, but I think I’ve got some cool ideas down now.
First off, I started by just brainstorming locations. Obvious choice was the golf course, but not just any part of it. I wanted spots that looked good and gave off that “golfer” vibe without being too cliché. Think like, near a particularly nice looking green, or by the old oak tree on the 7th hole.
- Scouted locations a couple of weeks before.
- Made notes on lighting at different times of day. Golden hour is the best, obviously.
- Checked the weather forecast religiously. Gotta have that sunshine!
Then came the outfit planning. I didn’t want to look like I was about to tee off for a tournament, but I also didn’t want to be in just jeans and a t-shirt. I ended up going for a couple of different looks – a classic golf polo and khakis for one, and then something a bit more casual but still golf-inspired, like a nice sweater and some chinos.
The actual shoot was a bit of a learning curve. We tried a bunch of poses. Some were kinda stiff at first, like me just standing there holding a club. But then I started to loosen up. I tried leaning on the club, looking out at the course, even a few mid-swing shots. Those were tougher than I expected!
- Used a couple of different clubs as props. Driver, putter, even a wedge.
- Got some shots with my golf bag, both carrying it and with it propped up.
- Even threw in a few with my golf glove on, just for some variety.
The photographer, who’s actually a friend of mine, had some good ideas too. He suggested getting some close-ups, focusing on details like my grip on the club or the ball on the tee. We also played around with different angles, shooting from low to the ground and from a bit higher up.
Key Moments
- Getting that perfect shot of me looking out over the fairway, all contemplative-like.
- Nailing a mid-swing shot that actually looked pretty natural.
- Laughing a lot when I almost whiffed a shot during the mid-swing poses.
The most important thing was having fun with it. I had fun trying a different style of photography. I think these pictures turned out to be a pretty cool way to remember my senior year and my love for the game.
