Best Basketball Hoop: How to Find the Best Deals
Alright, folks, let’s talk about something I’ve been messing around with lately: finding the best basketball hoop. I’ve got this space in my backyard, and I figured, why not put up a hoop? So, I started looking into it.
Figuring Out What I Needed
First thing I did was measure my driveway. Turns out, it’s not as big as I thought. I also learned that hoops come in different sizes. If you got like a one car driveway, which I do, they say to get a 54-inch backboard. If you got more space a 60-inch or even a 72-inch backboard, is what you want. I learned that 72-inch is what the pros use, but there was no way that was happening in my tiny space.
Choosing a Hoop
Then, I had to decide if I wanted a portable hoop or one of those in-ground ones. I started looking at what was available, and man, there are a lot of options out there. I also learned that the standard height for a hoop is 10 feet, which is what they use for everyone 12 and older. I mean, even the NBA guys use that height, so I definitely wasn’t going to mess with that. I ended up going with a portable one because I didn’t want to dig up my driveway. Plus, I figured I could move it around if I needed to.
Backboard Material
Next, I had to figure out what kind of backboard material to go for. They’ve got these polycarbonate ones and acrylic ones. I read that polycarbonate can get all weak and brittle in the sun, and it can turn yellow. Acrylic is tougher, they say. It can handle getting hit by stuff better. So, I decided on acrylic. It’s always sunny where I live and there are a bunch of kids in my neighborhood. No way I’m dealing with something that will shatter.

Getting It Done
I ended up finding a pretty good deal on a hoop online. I ordered it, and it arrived a few days later. I got my neighbor to help me put it together, which, I won’t lie, was kind of a pain. But, we got it done. Now, I’ve got a decent basketball hoop in my backyard. It’s not fancy, but it works. I’ve been shooting hoops after work, and it’s been fun. It’s not a pro setup or anything, but it gets the job done.
