Today, I’m gonna talk about something that’s been on my mind lately – basketball and how it’s been helping me keep my heart in check. I started playing pickup games a couple of months ago, just twice a week, nothing crazy. But man, has it made a difference!
Getting Started
- At first, it was just about having fun and getting some exercise. I hadn’t played in ages, so I was pretty rusty.
- I remember the first few games; I was gasping for air after just a few minutes of running up and down the court.
The Grind
- But I kept at it. I started with those two games a week and then tried to do some drills on my own, too.
- There’s this one drill where you sprint from baseline to baseline – killer! But I just kept doing it, day after day.
Feeling the Change
- And you know what? After a couple of weeks, I started to notice something. I wasn’t getting winded as quickly.
- I could actually keep up with the younger guys, at least for a little longer. It was a great feeling!
- I started to play for longer periods. We play 3×3 basketball, with one substitute per team. Each game is only 12 minutes, but it’s intense!
More Than Just Physical
- It’s not just about the physical stuff, though. Playing basketball has been great for my mental game, too.
- You learn to work as a team, to trust your teammates. We’ve even started hanging out off the court, which has been cool.
Keeping It Going
- I’m no pro, but I’m definitely feeling the benefits of playing regularly. My heart feels stronger, and I have more energy overall.
- Plus, it’s just a lot of fun! I’m planning to keep this up and maybe even join a league or something.
- I found some rules online about scoring and fouls, which helped me understand the game better. For example, if you get fouled while shooting and miss, you get two free throws.
So yeah, that’s my basketball journey so far. It’s been a simple but effective way to improve my health and make some new friends along the way. If you’re looking for a fun way to get in shape, I definitely recommend giving it a shot!
