Basketball Camp for 9th Graders in Norman, OK: Is It Worth It? Top Tips for Parents!
So, I gotta tell you guys about this crazy basketball camp I signed up for. I’m in 9th grade, and I live in Norman, Oklahoma, so I was looking for something to do over the summer, you know? Keep busy, improve my game, the usual stuff.
I searched online, and there are a ton of basketball camps out there. A bunch of them are in different cities, but I wanted one right here in Norman. I saw this one called “Summer Camp” mentioned a lot, and another called “Hoop Mountain Basketball Camp.” Then I found this one that seemed kinda legit, focusing on scoring skills at the Premier Sportsplex.
I decided to go for it and signed up. It wasn’t some super intense, high-pressure thing, which was cool. It’s more about getting better at your own pace.
- First day, they had us doing all sorts of drills. Shooting, dribbling, passing – the whole nine yards. It was tiring, but I could feel myself getting a little sharper.
- The coaches were pretty chill. They weren’t yelling or anything, just giving pointers and helping us out. One of them even showed me this cool trick to get my shot off quicker, which was awesome.
- We played a lot of games, too. Not just regular 5-on-5, but also 3-on-3 and even 1-on-1 sometimes. It was a good way to try out the stuff we were learning in the drills. They also had scrimmages every Wednesday. I think it’s a good way to practice.
- One thing I really liked was the other kids at the camp. Everyone was there to get better, so there wasn’t a lot of showing off or anything. We all just kinda helped each other out.
I think it’s the “3000 Shot Shooting Camp” they mentioned online because we did shoot a LOT of shots. Man, my arms were sore, but it was worth it. I could see my shot getting more consistent by the end.
Overall, it was a pretty solid experience. I definitely improved my game, especially my shooting. Plus, I met some cool people and had a good time. It wasn’t like some NBA training camp or anything, but for a 9th grader in Norman, it was perfect. If you’re looking for a good basketball camp in the area, I’d say check it out. It’s nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.
Oh, and the cost was something around $550 per team, and I registered at 7:30 a.m. on the first day, just for your information.
I heard that there is another camp called “PGC,” but it seems to be different from the one I went to. I don’t know much about that one. I just want to share my experience at this camp, and it was truly great for me.
