Jackson Country Club Golf Kids Programs: What Ages and Skill Levels?

Alright, so, the other day I was thinking about getting the kids into golf, right? And I remembered that the Jackson Country Club is pretty well-known around here. So, I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”

First things first, I checked out what they offer. It seemed like they have a decent program for kids, with different age groups and all that. They have these things called “Tee Times” that you need to book in advance, and they are only put up two days before the date.

Getting Started

I called them up to get some more info. The person on the phone was pretty helpful, explaining how it all works. They mentioned something about a 9-hole course that costs 37 bucks and an 18-hole one for 47 bucks. I mean, it sounds a bit pricey at first, but you know, it is a country club after all.

Next, I decided to take the kids over there to see the place. It’s huge! Lots of green, people swinging clubs, the whole nine yards. The kids were pretty excited, running around and pointing at everything. I talked to one of the instructors there, a friendly guy who seemed to know his stuff. He showed us the practice area where the kids could try hitting some balls.

  • My eldest, she picked up a club and tried to swing, bless her heart. It was more like she was trying to whack a fly, but hey, she was having fun.
  • My youngest, he was more interested in the golf carts, of course. Kept asking if he could drive one.

Giving It a Go

We decided to sign them up for a trial lesson. I mean, why not, right? They got paired up with a few other kids their age and an instructor who was good with children. Patient, you know? He started by showing them the basics, how to hold the club, how to stand, and all that jazz.

They spent about an hour hitting balls, missing most of them, but hey, they were trying. There were a few giggles, a few frustrated sighs, but overall, they seemed to enjoy it. My daughter even managed to hit a few decent shots, which surprised all of us.

Wrapping Up

After the lesson, we chatted with the instructor again. He gave us some pointers on what to work on and suggested some practice drills. He also mentioned that they have regular group lessons and even some competitions for the kids. I also tried to find out if there’s something about a high school band. But it seems like that’s a different thing altogether. Something about marching bands and color guard classes, which sounds fun, but not what we were looking for.

All in all, it was a good experience. The kids had fun, learned a bit about golf, and got some fresh air. We’re still not sure if they’ll stick with it, but at least we gave it a shot. I’m thinking we might go back for a few more lessons, just to see if it really clicks with them. Who knows, maybe we’ve got some future golf pros on our hands!
