Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with the box art for Shank 2. I’ve always thought that game had a really cool look, and I wanted to see if I could do anything with the art assets they released.
First, I opened up my internet browser and started searching for images about Shank 2. I found a ton of stuff – screenshots, concept art, the whole nine yards. I grabbed a few images from different web pages, including the official box art. Man, that cover is slick!
Next, I fired up my trusty image editor. It’s nothing fancy, just something I’ve been using for years. Then I loaded the Shank 2 box art into the editor. The colors, the lines, the whole style… it’s just so well done.
I spent a good chunk of time just playing around with the layers. I separated Shank from the background, messed with the color balance, and even tried to add some extra effects. I wanted to see if I could make it even more dynamic, you know?
- Isolated the main character, Shank, from the original background.
- Adjusted the color saturation to make the reds pop a bit more.
- Added a subtle motion blur effect to give it a sense of action.
- Experimented with different font styles for the title, though I ended up liking the original best.
Steps I took:
Honestly, I didn’t really have a set plan going in. I just wanted to see what I could come up with. It was more about experimenting and having fun than anything else.
In the end, I created a few different versions of the box art. Some were pretty out there, others were just slight tweaks to the original. It was a blast! It’s amazing how much you can do with just a few basic tools and a little bit of creativity. Maybe I’ll try doing something similar with another game’s artwork soon. We’ll see!
Anyway, that’s how I spent my afternoon. It might not be professional or anything, but I had a good time, and that’s what counts, right?
