using md sports tennis table: simple setup and playing tips for everyone

I decided to get a ping pong table recently. You know, something fun to do with friends and family, and also to get a little exercise in without feeling like I’m actually exercising. So, I went online, did some browsing, and ended up settling on an MD Sports tennis table. It seemed like a good balance of quality and price, plus it was a foldable model which is perfect for my space.

When it arrived, I was a little intimidated by the big box. I mean, I’m no handyman, but I figured, how hard could it be? I grabbed the instruction manual, which I later found out you can also download as a PDF online, and spread everything out on the floor.

Unboxing and First Impressions

First thing I did was make sure all the parts were there. I found the checklist in the manual pretty helpful. It was a four-piece table, which sounded complicated at first, but it turned out to be a good thing. The table came folded, and the legs were already mostly assembled, which saved me a lot of time.

  • Tabletops: There were four of them, two for each side, all nicely finished.
  • Legs: Sturdy metal legs, all pre-assembled. They were powder-coated steel tube, 60x60mm, looked pretty solid.
  • Net and Posts: A standard net and posts, seemed easy enough to put on later.
  • Hardware: A bag full of screws, bolts, and all that fun stuff.

Assembly Process

The assembly wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The instructions were kind of clunky, I feel like the guys who write this stuff think we are all engineers. But I managed. There’s this free BILT app they mentioned, which gives you 3D instructions. Didn’t use it though. The first step was to unfold the table halves and connect them. There were these latches that locked them together. I made sure they were secure ’cause I definitely didn’t want the table collapsing mid-game.

Next up were the legs. They had these curved inner and outer legs that made the table really stable. It felt super solid once I had them in place. I had to tighten a few bolts here and there, but it was pretty straightforward. There were these steel tube aprons, 40x20mm, that I attached to the underside, for extra support, I guess. The instructions said these were pre-assembled so I didn’t bother with them. They were already there.

Setting up for Play

Once the table was assembled, I attached the net. It just clamped onto the sides, super easy. The table is a standard size, 9 feet by 5 feet, I think. It’s a good size, big enough for a proper game, but not so huge that it takes over the whole room. It’s about 3/4 inch thick.

Folding and Storage

One of the main reasons I got this table was because it’s foldable. After playing, I unlatched the table halves, and they folded up easily. There are wheels on the bottom, so I could roll it out of the way and store it against the wall. This is super convenient, especially when I have guests over and need the extra space.

Overall, I’m really happy with my MD Sports tennis table. It’s a solid, well-made table that’s perfect for home use. The assembly was pretty easy, even for a non-handy person like me, and the fact that it folds up is a huge plus. It’s been a lot of fun already, and I can see it getting a lot of use in the future. It took me maybe two hours in total to get it all set up? Now I have a new activity that I can enjoy with friends at home.
