Alright, so you wanna know about this Randolph Macon basketball, huh? Well, lemme tell ya what I know, even if I don’t understand all them fancy words.
First off, they got this team, the Yellow Jackets. Sounds kinda scary, like a bunch of wasps, but they’re just young fellas runnin’ around with a ball. They play for some school, Randolph-Macon College, down in a place called Ashland, in Virginia. I heard it’s a pretty big deal down there.
Now, these Yellow Jackets, they’re in somethin’ called NCAA Division III. Don’t ask me what that means, but it sounds important. They’re also part of somethin’ called the ODAC. More letters! Anyways, they seem to win a lot, or so I hear. People keep sayin’ they got a “winning tradition”. Means they’re good, I guess.
I saw on that there TV thing, they was playin’ other schools. Saw somethin’ about Old Dominion Monarchs… sounds like kings and queens, but it’s just more basketball. And they beat some school called Washington and Lee somethin’ somethin’. Beat ’em good too, 65 to 44. That’s a big win, even I know that.
They got a bunch of games comin’ up, a whole “regular season” they call it. You can find all the times and dates on that ESPN thing, if you know how to work that contraption. Me? I just ask my grandson. He knows all about them computers and such.
- They was in somethin’ called the “Round of 16” five times. That sounds pretty good, like they’re one of the best teams around.
- Folks get real excited about these games. They say the Yellow Jackets got “passionate fans”. That means folks yell a lot and wear funny colors, I reckon.
- They got a whole bunch of players, a whole “roster” they call it. Young fellas, all of ’em. Probably runnin’ around and eatin’ like horses.
This Randolph-Macon team, they seem to be doin’ alright. Winning games, makin’ people happy. That’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Just good ol’ fashioned fun and games. Even if I don’t understand all the rules, I can still appreciate a good win when I see it. Makes me think of back in the day when we used to play… well, never mind that. Times have changed. But a win’s a win, no matter how you slice it.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to watch, maybe give these Yellow Jackets a try. Might be a hoot. And if you don’t understand it all, don’t worry none. Just cheer when the ball goes in the basket. That’s what I do.
They got a game comin’ up soon, I think. Better check that ESPN thingy again. Gotta make sure I got my snacks ready. Can’t watch a good game without some popcorn, ya know? And maybe a nice cup of tea.
