Alright, so you wanna know about this Presbyterian men’s basketball, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t nothin’ fancy like them NBA fellas, but these boys, they got heart, ya know? They play hard, even if they don’t always win. It’s like watchin’ your grandkids playin’ out in the yard – kinda clumsy sometimes, but you still cheer ‘em on.
Presbyterian Blue Hose, that’s what they call ‘em. Sounds a bit funny, don’t it? Blue Hose. I reckon it’s got somethin’ to do with them old-timey socks, the kind my grandpa used to wear, pulled up high. Anyways, these boys, they run around a lot, tryin’ to throw that orange ball into that net thingy. Sometimes it goes in, sometimes it don’t. That’s basketball for ya.
- They got a coach, this fella, Quinton Ferrell, they say he’s alright. Tries to teach ‘em the plays and all that. I dunno, seems like a lot of yellin’ to me, but I guess that’s how they do it.
- They play in somethin’ called the Big South. Big South, sounds important, right? Well, I reckon it is to them. They play against other schools, like Charleston Southern and Tennessee Tech. Heard they lost to Tennessee Tech last time, somethin’ like 79 to 75. Close game, they said. Woulda been nice if they won, but ya can’t win ‘em all, I always say.
Now, they got these games, see? They call ‘em series. Like, Presbyterian played against Stephen F. Austin. They won one, lost one. Fair and square, I guess. It’s like when you’re sharin’ pies at the church picnic – gotta make sure everyone gets a piece.
This past season, they won 14 games and lost 19. That ain’t too bad, is it? I mean, for a bunch of college kids runnin’ around with a ball. They scored about 74 points a game, on average. That’s a lot of points, if you ask me. Imagine tryin’ to count that high! My head would spin.
They got this roster, a list of all the players. Young fellas, most of ‘em. Prob’ly missin’ their mama’s cookin’, just like my boys did when they went off to college. They got names like Justin Bailey and Tahlik Chavez. Chavez, that sounds like a name from one of them soap operas my daughter watches. Anyways, these boys, they’re the ones doin’ the runnin’ and the jumpin’ and the throwin’. They’re the team.
They play at Presbyterian College. It’s a school, ya know? Kids go there to learn stuff, and I guess to play basketball too. They got this webpage, and they put all the scores and the players’ names and all that on there. My grandson showed me once. It’s all fancy with pictures and numbers. Too much for my old eyes, to be honest.
So, that’s Presbyterian men’s basketball in a nutshell. They ain’t famous, and they ain’t always winnin’, but they try hard, and that’s what counts, right? It’s like plantin’ a garden – you put in the work, and sometimes you get a good harvest, sometimes you don’t. But you keep tryin’ anyways.
They’re startin’ up again soon, this 2024-25 season they call it. New games, new chances. Maybe they’ll win more this year. Maybe they’ll lose more. Who knows? That’s the fun of it, I guess. Just like life, ya never know what’s gonna happen next. But you keep on watchin’, keep on cheerin’, and keep on hopin’ for the best.
And that’s all I gotta say about that Presbyterian basketball. It ain’t rocket science, just a bunch of boys playin’ a game. And sometimes, that’s all ya need, ya know? Just a little bit of somethin’ to watch and cheer for, somethin’ to make ya feel good.
