Explore Tennis Courts at Washington Park: A Guide to Public Facilities in Denver
Alright, let me tell ya ’bout them tennis courts down at Washington Park, wherever that is. I ain’t never played no tennis myself, but I seen folks hittin’ them fuzzy yeller balls back and forth. Looks like fun, I guess, if you’re into that kinda thing.
Now, from what I hear, this Washington Park, it’s got a bunch of tennis courts. Some say eight, some say more, hard to keep track. They got lights too, so you can play even when it gets dark. That’s good, I reckon, ’cause some folks, they like to play after work, when the sun’s gone down.
They got this club there, the Washington Park Tennis Club, been around since way back when. 1965, they say. Them folks, they play on the south courts mostly. I don’t know what a “USTA League” is, but them club folks, they seem to like it. Must be somethin’ fancy.
You know, they say you can just go down there and play. It’s public, like the park itself. Just bring your own rackets and balls, I guess. Or maybe you can borrow ’em, I dunno. Never tried it myself. Too busy with my gardenin’, you see.
I heard tell there’s other stuff at this Washington Park too. Basketball courts, horseshoe pits, baseball fields, even a playground for the little ‘uns. And a lake! With ducks and such. Sounds like a nice place to spend a day, even if you ain’t gonna play no tennis.
- They got lights on the courts, so you can play at night.
- There’s a tennis club, the Washington Park Tennis Club, if you wanna get fancy.
- You can just show up and play, no need to be a member or nothin’.
- Lots of other stuff to do at the park besides tennis.
Now, some folks, they like to get all organized about their tennis. They use some kinda tool, on the computer I guess, to find other folks to play with. They pick a time and a court, and then they all meet up. Sounds complicated to me, but hey, whatever floats your boat.
I even heard you can take lessons there, if you wanna learn how to play proper. And they have tournaments too, where folks compete against each other. I bet them tournaments get pretty serious. Folks gettin’ all riled up over a little ball, it’s somethin’ to see.
They got these other Washington Parks too, I hear. One in Atlanta, with tennis courts too. And another one way up in Portland. And Denver! Seems like everyone wants a Washington Park with tennis courts. Must be somethin’ special about that name, I reckon.
Anyways, if you like tennis, or you just wanna watch folks playin’ tennis, Washington Park sounds like a good place to go. Just head on down there and see for yourself. Maybe I’ll even go watch sometime, if I can find the time between waterin’ my tomatoes and chasin’ them squirrels outta my bird feeder.
And if you wanna schedule a court, or get some lessons, or somethin’, they got a number you can call. (206) 684-4764, they say. Or you can send ’em one of them e-mails, whatever that is. Tenniscourtscheduling@*, sounds like a mouthful to me. But then again, I ain’t never been good with them fancy city ways.
So there ya have it. All I know about them tennis courts at Washington Park. Not much, I admit, but enough to get you started. Now go on and have some fun, ya hear?
