Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here… uh… Archibald Hoban football, or whatever they call it. Sounds fancy, huh? Don’t know much about fancy, but I know a thing or two about football. My grandson, little Mikey, he plays sometimes. Runs around like a chicken with its head cut off, but he has fun.
So, this Hoban team, they’re pretty good, I guess. Folks keep talkin’ about ’em. Heard they won some kinda championship, a big deal, they say. Division Two, was it? Sounds important. They got a new coach, too. A fella named… Tim somethin’. Came from way down south, Florida way. Hollywood, even! Can you believe it? Hollywood! Guess he knows a thing or two about football, bein’ from such a fancy place.
These Hoban boys, they play hard. I saw ’em on the TV once. Big fellas, runnin’ and jumpin’. Reminds me of the cows when they get spooked durin’ a thunderstorm. But these boys, they ain’t runnin’ away, they’re runnin’ towards somethin’. Towards winnin’, I reckon.
- They won a game, see. Against some team, Avon, I think it was. State somethin’-somethin’. Semifinals, that’s what they called it. Means they’re almost to the tippy top, right?
- And then there’s this other team, Walsh somethin’. Jesuit, I think. They played them too. Heard it was a good game, lots of yellin’ and cheerin’. Folks get real worked up over these games, ya know.
They’re sponsored by some holy fellas, the Brothers of somethin’ Cross. Sounds religious. My sister, Martha, she’s real religious. Goes to church every Sunday. Maybe she knows about these brothers. Anyways, these brothers, they must be doin’ alright by these football boys, keepin’ ’em fed and whatnot.
This football team, they’re from Akron, Ohio. Heard it’s a big city. Not like here, where everyone knows everyone. But in Akron, I guess football is a big deal. Brings folks together, ya know? Like a good ol’ fashioned barn raisin’, but with more runnin’ and less hammerin’.
Folks are always lookin’ for scores and schedules and such. They want to know when the games are, and if their team won. Mikey’s always pesterin’ me to look it up online. But I don’t know much about this internet stuff. Too complicated for an old lady like me. But Mikey, he figures it out. Kids these days, they’re smart with that stuff.
Hoban football, yeah, they’re somethin’ special, I guess. They work hard, play hard, and win games. That’s what it’s all about, right? Winnin’. And makin’ folks proud. Like when Mikey brings home a good report card. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
So, if you’re lookin’ for some good football, keep an eye on these Hoban boys. They seem to know what they’re doin’. Even if I don’t understand half of it. Football’s football, I guess. Runnin’, jumpin’, and throwin’ that funny shaped ball. And tryin’ to win. That’s the important part. Winnin’.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on those chickens. They’re probably gettin’ into mischief again. And maybe later, I’ll see if Mikey can find me some more information about this Hoban team. Maybe even teach me a thing or two about this here football game.
