They been real strong in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, or GPAC, whatever that means. They’ve been playin’ in that conference for a long time now, since ‘03-‘04, which is a good long while, don’t ya think? Seems like they been holdin’ their ground real good, making folks from the college mighty proud.
Now, let’s talk about the coach. This here Steve Ryan fellow, he’s been around for a good stretch of time, and the man’s been workin’ hard for that team. I heard he got named the Coach of the Year for Region 4 in the AFCA. Big deal, huh? They sayin’ it’s a real honor, so ya know he must be doin’ something right. I reckon he knows a thing or two about how to run that football team, ‘cause those boys sure know how to play. They’re tough, and they don’t give up easy.
Just this October, they had a real good game. They played against Dordt, and let me tell ya, it wasn’t no easy win. But the Mustangs, that’s what they call themselves, managed to pull through with a 31-21 victory. Now that’s the kinda fightin’ spirit we all can appreciate! Even in tough games, they don’t back down, and that’s what makes Morningside football somethin’ special.
Of course, it ain’t always been easy. I heard they played Benedictine College and lost by just three points, 48-45. That’s a close one, but I reckon sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It ain’t about how many times you fall down, it’s about how many times you get back up, right? And I tell ya, the Mustangs, they get back up every time. They show a lotta heart, and that’s the kinda thing that sticks with ya.
But what really stands out about Morningside is the atmosphere. The Elwood Olsen Stadium is where it all happens. It’s in Sioux City, a good spot to gather round and cheer for the team. Now, I ain’t been there myself, but folks say it’s always a lively place when the Mustangs are playin’. The energy, the excitement – you can just feel it in the air. Seems like a real good time for anyone who loves the game.
And let me tell ya somethin’ else. Morningside University, where all these young athletes go, they’re not just about football. They got a whole bunch of sports, and folks from all over the place come to be a part of it. I hear they got teams in all sorts of things – track, soccer, volleyball, you name it. Ain’t just about the football, but it sure is the one that gets the most attention.
The players, they ain’t just students. They’re more like a big ol’ family, workin’ together, supportin’ each other, and representin’ the school with pride. And that’s somethin’ we can all get behind. They might be out there runnin’, throwin’, and catchin’ that ball, but there’s a lot of folks off the field cheerin’ ‘em on, too. Every touchdown, every win – it’s like the whole town wins together. Makes ya feel good inside, don’t it?
In the end, that’s what football’s all about, right? It’s not just about the game, it’s about the people. It’s about the team, the coach, the fans, and everyone who’s a part of it. Morningside football, well, they’ve been part of something bigger for years, and they keep on makin’ their mark. You can bet folks will be talkin’ about ‘em for years to come.
