You see, this school, E.C. Glass, over in Lynchburg, they got themselves a team that’s been raisin’ a lotta eyebrows. Been hearin’ folks talkin’ ‘bout them all around town, especially after them girls made it big in the Region 4D Championship. Now that was a sight to see, let me tell ya!
The Hilltoppers, that’s what they call themselves, and let me tell ya, they’re proud of it. “Go Big Blue!” they shout, and it ain’t just for show. This team, they don’t play around when they hit the court. Whether they’re playin’ against teams like Sherando or whoever else, they’ve been puttin’ up some real good fights. And let me tell ya, folks been watchin’ ‘em, and some of them are callin’ them the next big thing in tennis. Who knows? They might be headin’ to a state championship soon enough!
Now, I don’t know if y’all been followin’ the schedule or not, but if you haven’t, well you’re missin’ out. These girls been busy! Their matches come and go, but every time they step onto that court, they’re givin’ it their all. I seen ‘em playin’ a real good match just last Tuesday at the E.C. Glass High School, when they were goin’ up against Sherando. And let me tell ya, it wasn’t no easy win, but them girls, they just kept pushin’ through. That’s somethin’ you gotta admire. They got grit, you know? The kind of determination you just can’t teach!
Speaking of determination, y’all remember how it was back in 2021? Those girls from E.C. Glass went and took home the Class 4 state championship. It wasn’t just luck, no sir! They worked for it, and boy, did they work hard. And now, in 2024, they’re back at it, with some new faces on the team, but the same ol’ fire. They’re still hungry, still fightin’ for every point, every game. They got that same championship spirit, even though it’s been a few years since they stood on that state stage.
It’s amazing how they’ve grown over the years, too. Some of these girls, they’ve been playin’ tennis since they were little, while others, they just picked it up a few years ago. But that don’t matter none. What matters is the heart they put into it, and let me tell ya, they got plenty of it! Whether it’s the fresh new players or the seasoned ones, they all work together, support each other, and they play like a family.
Now, I reckon some of you might be wonderin’ just who’s on this team, and I can tell ya, they got some real fine players. I’ve heard good things ‘bout the sophomore and junior varsity girls. I don’t know all their names off the top of my head, but trust me, they’re good. They may not always get the spotlight, but they’re out there, workin’ hard, doin’ their part to make sure the team keeps goin’ strong. It ain’t just the varsity players that make this team, it’s the whole squad, from top to bottom.
If you’re out there in Lynchburg and you see one of these girls, give ‘em a nod, tell ‘em you’re proud of ‘em. ‘Cause, let me tell ya, they’re doin’ somethin’ special over there at E.C. Glass High. And if you ain’t watchin’ them yet, well, now’s the time to start. You won’t be disappointed, I promise ya that!
So let’s all root for ‘em. “Go Big Blue!” Keep watchin’ these girls. They’re gonna do some big things, I can feel it in my bones!
